This summer my family and I enjoyed a week of rafting on the pristine Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho. Before we went on the river to begin our six day rafting trip, a forest ranger with the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness, instructed us as to the rules and regulations that must be observed to maintain the pollution free river. She talked with us about the damaging effects of micro trash; those small, inconsequential things that we leave behind without a second thought. To name a few: dental floss, hairpins, matches, stray coins, toothpicks, and buttons. We were told that there were to be no remains, whatsoever, left behind when we exited a campsite. Ten thousand people a year go on the river, and when all is said and done, there should be nothing left behind to indicate that anyone at all has paid the river a visit.

As you approach the first big rapid of the day, you hear the roar. Salmon Falls is a five-foot wave drop around car-sized rocks, and now you and your family drift toward the edge.
“Easy forward,” your guide requests, as you paddle to gather momentum.
The boat surges forward. Everyone paddles together to power the raft onto the blue tongue of water that will take you to the center of the foaming froth below.
“Okay, team, here we go! Left turn!” the guide yells. The boat then spins to face dead ahead into the roller coaster maelstrom. “Looks like fun! Let’s run the drop. Forward hard!”

Planning any type of vacation is fun and exciting as the possibilities are endless and you can do whatever you want! If what you want to do is go on a mountain biking vacation, there are many things to keep in mind to ensure you and your family have a great time.
Equipment: At bare minimum, you’ll need a bike for every member of your party. Where you intend to ride will determine what type of bike you want to have–off road adventures require a mountain bike with big knobby tires, shocks, and a sturdy frame. For long trips on paved roads, you’ll want a sleek road bike with skinny tires. Depending on the technical nature of your planned trip, or possible weather conditions, you’ll want to check out specialized biking clothing which will allow you to be comfortable longer in the elements.

Have you ever been to Maui? It is really a beautiful place to visit, especially if you are the adventurous sort. I know that my wife and I have been there twice and it was absolutely beautiful, there really isn’t a place like it on the planet. Some of the main things that people do when they visit Maui is to relax on the beach, enjoy some of the great food that is available, take a drive on the road to Hanna and my personal favorite, take a bike ride down Mt. Haleakala.

You won’t find the term “Mountain Biking” in the dictionary; you have to break it down. Webster defines “Mountain” as: “a landmass that projects conspicuously above its surroundings and is higher than a hill” and “Bicycle” as: “a vehicle with two wheels tandem, a steering handle, a saddle seat, and pedals by which it is propelled.” That is enough to discourage 99% of us from taking up the sport. “Mountain Biking” is a generic and often over-used term that isn’t nearly as difficult as Webster would like us to think – in fact, a lot of people think it’s fun!

Even though, bike tours are different from other types of venturing, but still they have something that makes them satisfactory and exceptional. This mode of travelling works as a preferable choice for the ones who want to challenge the conventional norms of exploring. In fact, it infuses a nomadic essence within the entire trip where a tourist gets an opportunity to go beyond the limits just to witness and experience the true flavours of a destination.
